Experian dispute

If you wish to improve your credit rating or want to remove any item from the credit report that is not right then you need to file dispute with Experian. It is one of the three major credit reporting companies in the United States of America. You can file your dispute online or by visiting the site of Experian or you can write a letter by mail to Experian that contains details of your dispute.
1. File your dispute with Experian: -
You have to contact Experian via telephone, online or by mail. Be ready to provide your personal information like: -
Full name
Address
Date of Birth
Social Security Number
You will also need the lender’s name and you have to provide the details about why is your account incorrect.
Get your social security card and keep it with you safely if you don’t have your number memorized.
2. Visit the company website if you want to dispute your credit report online. Complete the investigation forms entirely and you receive a confirmation email. Confirm your email. You will receive a free copy of your credit report of past 12 months. Check your credit report properly, your name along with your address and telephone number. Pay attention to accounts and payment history listed in your credit report. Make sure you verify all the accounts that you have opened for yourself and there are no cases of identity theft. Verify all the negative information in your credit report such as late or missed payments. This negative information is shown in your report for 7 years as long as you correct it. A bankruptcy stays in your credit report for 10 years.
3. Collect copies of payment histories, court fillings or the notices of closed accounts before submitting a credit report dispute. Every item you dispute on your credit report will require a brief statement as why do you think the information is incorrect. Submit the dispute through Experian website. Experian associates have 60 days to investigate and if they can’t confirm the validity of items which are shown in the report, they will remove them from the report.
4. The Experian websites offers you to check the status and results of your report online. Experian sends a notification of your disputes which are found and they are viewable online. You will need your Experian credit report number and Social Security Number to view this information online.
5. Call 888-397-3742 if you wish the dispute your credit report via Telephone or mail. Explain to the operator briefly why you don’t agree with the negative credit entry. If you need an example, check the Federal Trade Commission website.
6. It takes around 45 days for investigation and to remove the negative entry from the report. You will receive a mailed letter from the company and an updated copy of your credit file. If by chance your dispute fails, you have to send a new letter requesting the new dispute.
